What does “Make Love, Not War” mean to us? As owners of 215 Hackney, we’ve always been inspired by our local community here in N16. Having grown up here, we are incredibly proud of this area. From its origins as a rural village to becoming one of the most vibrant communities of East London thanks to its amazing residents that have built it into what it is today. Stoke Newington and the surrounding neighbourhood has now become synonymous with diversity and providing everyone with a sense of belonging. We wanted to bring that idea to life when we launched our “Make Love, Not War” bags.
The “Make Love Not War” slogan has long been synonymous with both 215 Hackney and our sister brand Drury. We have this artwork painted in our cafes as a symbol of what we stand for. And now that idea is more important than ever which is why we decided to launch these bags to celebrate the Hackney spirit and to act as a reminder of the values that unite us.
The “Make Love, Not War” message felt like the perfect representation of what Hackney stands for – love over hate and peace over conflict. Since we launched the bags, we have now started seeing them everywhere – carried by locals and visitors in the area. This filled us with immense happiness and pride.
We have always believed in using our café as a platform for good, whether that’s through giving back to our community during hard times through our initiatives or promoting causes we care about. These bags are an extension of that mission and just another way for us to say thank you.
We hope that this small gesture helps more of you spread this positive message and we once again wanted to thank all of you for being part of the 215 Hackney family. We look forward to creating many more happy memories together.
